WILLIAM WOOLLEY

William Woolley (1863-1943) was born in Nottingham, England. After training in music, he became an established music teacher in Nottingham. He was organist and choirmaster of St. Michael’s Church for over fifty years. He started a church choral group that became the William Woolley Choral Society of Nottingham. They were noted for their concerts of unaccompanied music and won many awards in music competitions. The group was also noted for concerts featuring music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Woolley was widely recognized as choral conductor and adjudicator. He died in Nottingham. His compositions are mainly church works, part-songs and songs.
