MICHAEL WATSON

William Michael Watson (1840-1889) was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was a trained painter and was a lithographic artist. In the 1860s, he turned to music as a career. He became a prolific composer of popular airs in association with lyricist Samuel Cowans as well as often writing lyrics himself. He was particularly known for his sea songs. He also wrote instrumental music, especially for the piano. Much of his music was published posthumously.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
