JOHN B. MCEWEN

Sir John Blackwood McEwen (1868-1948) was born in Hawick, Scotland, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After returning to Scotland, he was a choirmaster and teacher at Greenock and Glasgow. He became Professor of Harmony and Composition at the R.A.M. from 1898 until 1924 and was appointed Principal between 1924 and 1936. McEwen was also co-founder the Society of British Composers in 1905.
