Lawrence (Laurence) Hanray (1874-1947), was born Lawrence Henry Jacobs in Hampstead, London, England. He became a professional theatre actor, using the name Hanray. He was active in theatres in Britain and spent some time touring in Australia, New Zealand, the U. S., and Canada. In the U. S., he appeared at the Booth Theatre and the Gaeity Theatre on Broadway. He was active in film, appearing in over 80 films. He was known for appearances in The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), The Good Companions (1933), Lorna Doone (1934), and Knight Without Armor (1937). He authored several plays and was known as a music composer of light music for the English Music Hall. His second wife Lois Grace Heatherley was an actress, appearing with him on Broadway. His daughter Ursula Susan Edith Hanray also became an actress. He died in Marylebone, London, following hospital medical procedures.
