C. ARMSTRONG GIBBS

Cecil Armstrong Gibbs (1889-1960) was born in Great Baddow, Essex, England. His aunt discovered that he had perfect pitch when he was three, he was improvising at the piano and he wrote his first song at age five. He was educated at the Wick School; Winchester College; Trinity College, Cambridge; and the Royal College of Music. He taught at the Copthorne School, the Wick School, and the Royal College of Music. He founded the Danbury Choral Society, was active as adjudicator, and became an established composer. His work “Dusk” was requested by then Princess Elizabeth on her eighteenth birthday. He died in Chelmsford.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
