EDWARD BROOME

William Edward Broome (1868-1932) was born in Manchester, England, grew up in Wales, and earned a diploma at the Royal Academy of Music. He went to the U.S.A. to conduct the Penryhn Male Chorus at the 1893 Chicago Exposition and accepted a position as organist-choirmaster at the First Presbyterian Church in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Remaining in Canada, he graduated from Trinity College, Toronto. He served as organist-choirmaster at Douglas Methodist Church, Montreal; Jarvis Street Baptist Church, Toronto; and Knox United Church, Calgary. He taught voice and choral methods and was founder and director of the Toronto Oratorio Society. He died in Toronto. Approximately 100 of his works, primarily for church, were published. His compositions won eight first prizes at the Welsh Eisteddfods.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
