SAMUEL GEORGE BENSON

Samuel George Benson (1857–1925) was born in London, England, and trained at the Royal Academy of Music. He held organist positions in England before moving to Australia about 1885, taking a position at St James’ Cathedral, Townsville, where he played the first pipe organ in North Queensland. He then held organist positions at several Australian churches, including Charters Towers; the Fortitude Valley Wesleyan Church; St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Brisbane; the Albert Street Wesleyan Church, Brisbane; and St. Andrew’s Uniting Church, Brisbane. He was active as recitalist and composer. He died in Queensland.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
