ALFRED ANGEL

Alfred Angel (1816-1876) was born at Chichester, Sussex, England. He trained as a chorister at Wells Cathedral and later became assistant organist. He succeeded S. S. Wesley as organist at Exeter Cathedral where he also was Master of the Choristers and Lay Vicar. He was director of the Exeter Madrigal Society and composed a number of pieces for the group. He died in Exeter. His compositions include anthems, hymns, songs, and part-songs.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
