HENRY JACOBSEN

Henry [Henri, Heinrich] Jacobsen (1860–1946) was born in Hamburg, Germany, and received training from notable teachers in Germany. At about age twenty-one, he went to the America to become Concert Master and Assistant Director of the Schreiner Orchestra. He became conductor of the Liederkranz and the Classical Music Club in Toronto, Canada, then became Concert Master of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Vocal Society in New York. He became head of the Music Department at Wells College, Aurora, Cayuga Lake, New York, for a short time, but returned to Buffalo as conductor of the choral society Sängerbund until he resigned and lived in Rochester to concentrate on composition. He died in Rochester.
