Felix Borowski (1872-1956) was born at Burton-in-Kendal, Westmoreland, England. After early studies in violin, music theory, and composition, he went to Germany to study at Cologne Conservatory. He then became a violin teacher in Aberdeen, Scotland, but relocated to Chicago in the United States at the invitation of the great American Broadway impresario Florenz Ziegfeld, who was president of the Chicago Musical College at the time. Borowski taught there and became president of the college. He was also Professor of Musicology at Northwestern University. He was music reviewer for the Musical Courier, Chicago Evening Post, Chicago Record-Herald, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Chicago Sun. He was also author of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra program notes for 48 years. He died in Chicago. His compositions include three symphonies, tone poems, a piano concerto, string quartets, ballets, an opera, organ works, and numerous pieces for piano, violin, and voice.
