CHARLES VINCENT

Charles John Vincent (1852-1934) was born at Houghton-le-Spring, Durham, England. He studied music under his father Charles John Vincent, organist at St. Michael’s, was a chorister at Durham Cathedral, studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, and graduated from Oxford University. He was organist at Monkwearmouth Parish Church; St. Mark’s, Sunderland; Tavistock Parish Church; Kelly College, Tavistock; and Christ Church, Hampstead, London. He taught harmony at Trinity College, London; was editor of the Organist and Choirmaster; and founded the Vincent Music Publishing Co. He wrote a number of textbooks and composed cantatas, organ pieces, piano pieces, small works for orchestra, works for solo strings, part songs, duets, and solo songs. He travelled to South Africa and Australia, and died at Monte Carlo, Monaco.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
