W. C. F. ROBINSON

Sir William Cleaver Francis Robinson (1834-1897) was the son of Admiral Hercules Robinson. In 1866, he was appointed Governor of the Falkland Islands; in 1873, he was appointed the first Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island; he then served three terms as Governor of Western Australia. Between the three terms of office in Western Australia, he took the offices of Governor of the Straits Settlements and Governor of South Australia. He retired from active service in 1895 and died in South Kensington, London. He was created a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) in 1873, a Knight Commander (KCMG) in 1877 and a Knight, Grand Cross (GCMG) in 1887. He was an amateur composer and authored a number of well known songs.
