ERNEST HALSEY

Ernest Halsey (1876-1939) was born in Anerley, South East London, England, son of a Congregational minister (some sources identify place of birth as Battersea, London). He was educated at Taunton. He was a stockbroker, journalist, and the organist of the Congregational Church, Anerley. He composed a number of organ pieces, vocal works and other pieces. He also was a humorist and writer under the pseudonym Ashley Sterne. He was known for his satirical writings and as the author of material for the great English actor and comedian Stanley Holloway. He died in Marylebone, London.
