JAMES GREENHILL

James Greenhill (1840–1921) was born in Harrow, Middlesex, England. He became well-established in London as a vocalist, composer and teacher. For about twenty years he was choirmaster for the influential Rev. Hugh Reginald Haweis, and was director of music for the New Shakespeare Society. He died in Paddington, London. As composer, he was best known for his songs based on Shakespeare texts. His music was featured at the Proms during the last decade of the century.
