JOHN GOSS

Sir John Goss (1800-1880) was born in Fareham, Hampshire, England, where his father Joseph Goss was organist at Fareham Parish Church. He trained as chorister of the Chapel Royal, London, and studied with Thomas Attwood. He was organist at of Stockwell Chapel, at St. Luke’s, Chelsea, and for 34 years was organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. He taught at also taught at St. Paul’s, was professor at the Royal Academy of Music, and served as Composer to Chapel Royal. Most of his music was vocal with the bulk of that for the church.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
