MYLES B. FOSTER

Myles Birket Foster (1851-1922) was born in London, England. His father was Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899), a well known illustrator watercolourist and engraver. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Ebenezer Prout, Hamilton Clarke, and Sir Arthur Sullivan. He was organist at Haweis’ church and at the Foundling Hospital, and was editor for Boosey. He became an Examiner of Trinity College, London, requiring him to spend many years in Australia and South Africa. He authored the books Anthems and Anthem Composers and History of the Philharmonic Society. His compositions include service music, anthems, cantatas for children’s voices, songs, and part-songs, mostly two-part or patriotic.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
