Sir Percy Carter Buck (1871-1947) was born in London, England. He studied at Merchant Taylors’ School and the Royal College of Music. He was organist at Worcester College, Oxford; Wells Cathedral; and Bristol Cathedral. He was appointed as director of music at Harrow School, and held that post until 1927. From 1910 to 1920, he was non-resident Professor of Music at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1925, he became the King Edward Professor of Music in the University of London and taught at the Royal College of Music. He also served as music adviser to the London County Council. His compositions include chamber music, organ works, piano works, and songs. With Charles Macpherson, he edited The English Psalter. Other publications include the Oxford Song Book and Psychology for Musicians. Although he composed a significant amount of music, many of his manuscripts were destroyed during the Second World War.
