WALTER W. BROOKS

Walter William Brooks (1861-?) was born at Edgbaston, Birmingham, England. He received early training from his parents and was a chorister at St. Martin’s Church, where his father Walter Brooks (1832-1907) was organist. He was educated at King Edward’s School and studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music under Ebenezer Prout. He taught pianoforte and singing at the William Ellis Endowed School, Gospel Oak. He was active as a writer on music and had some experience as a dramatic critic. His compositions include orchestral works, pieces for pianoforte and part-songs. His brother Arthur Charles Brooks (b. 1864) was also a musician.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
