JOHN A STERRY

John Augustus Sterry (1834-1902) was born in Norwich, Connecticut. He became an organist and composer in Norwich. He was the business manager, conductor and composer of The Continental Vocalists. The group was a successful and popular touring band of Connecticut natives, playing instruments and singing. He was editor of “The Continental Glee-Book,” and composed sacred music, glees, quartets and songs. He died in Norwich. His name is occasionally spelled Steary.
