S. J. OSLIN

Stephen Jesse Oslin (1858-1928) was born in Coosa County, Alabama, and grew up in Greenridge, Arkansas, where first studied music. He moved to Whitefield, Oklahoma, where he taught music and organized the first singing school. He also served as a minister in the Methodist Church South and supply minister at Canadian, Oklahoma. He organized the Eureka Normal School of Music at South McAlester, Oklahoma, founded the Eureka Publishing Company in Stigler, Oklahoma, and was editor and publisher of the Eureka Messenger. He died in Stigler, Oklahoma.
