GEO. L. OSGOOD

George Laurie Osgood (1844-1922) was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He showed musical gift as a child and graduated with honors from Harvard University where he directed the college orchestra and glee club. He studied in Berlin, then in Milan under Francesco Lamperti. He toured Europe and returned to the United States to tour with Theodore Thomas and his orchestra. He lived in Boston for many years becoming a successful teacher, composer and conductor. He led the well-known Boylston Club, reorganizing the society completely and changing it from a men’s chorus to mixed. He spent the last years of his life in Europe and died at his home in Godalming, England.
