Carl Harold Lowden (1883-1963) was born in Burlington, New Jersey. He first published a song at age twelve and soon began a career as music editor and composer. He was editor for the Hall-Mack Publishing Company, for the Publication and Sunday School board of the Reform Church of Philadelphia, and for the Evangelical and Reformed Church Board (later the United Church of Christ). He taught music for several years at the Bible Institute of Pennsylvania and was a minister of music for Linden Baptist Church in Camden, New Jersey, for nearly three decades. Must of his compositions were hymns. He died in Collingswood, New Jersey. His younger brother Clinton also wrote hymns and songs.
