ABRAM W. LANSING

Abram Winne Lansing (1861–1928) was born on the family homestead at Cohoes, New York. He was educated in Cohoes public schools, the Albany Academy, and Williams College. He remained in New York and was Director of the Cohoes Philharmonic Society, the Cohoes Community Orchestra, the Hudson Choral Society, and the Ballston Choral Union. He served as President of the Diatonic Club of Albany, and was the Director of the Round Lake Musical Festival. He was recognized as one of the finest organists of the regions, and served as organist for the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Albany and the Silliman Memorial Church of Cohoes. He also was director of the Cohoes Community Orchestra. He became Supervisor of Music in Cohoes public schools and leader of Cohoes High School Orchestra and Glee Club. More than 150 of his compositions were published, mostly church music, including anthems, keyboard pieces, duets, and songs.
