Henry Leonard Frisbie (1835-1920) was born in Branford, Connecticut. The family moved West to Iroquois County, Illinois, when he was 12 and, during the Civil War, he served in the 113th Regiment Illinois Volunteers. His first and most famous song was “Oh, Bury the Brave Where They Fall” published by Root & Cady in 1863. His name is sometimes spelled “Henrie.” He settled in Onarga, Illinois, and, for a time was in the lumber and coal and farm implement business. His family was active in the Congregationalist Church. He died in Onarga. He authored many hymns and wrote poems for family.
