LOUIS M. EVILSIZER

Louis Morris Evilsizer (1852-1921) was born in Jay County, Indiana. He became a well known throughout the Mid-West as a music teacher and composer. He held music conventions and singing schools throughout the region. For a time, he lived in Vates Center, Kansas, and held conventions in Coffeyville. In 1892, he took charge of the Portland Normal School in Indiana, and turned it into a conservatory. His wife was Ruth Adalyn Hearn Evilsizer (1862-1899), author of many hymn texts. He died in Carthage, Illinois. He composed many songs, hymns, and Gospel songs for school publications, hymnals, and singing school collections.
