WILLIAM U. BUTCHER

William Unruh Butcher (1829-1910) was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. He was active as a musician and was an editor for the music publisher T. C. Armstrong & Co. He was best known as the long-time editor of the newspaper the “Germantown Telegraph.” He composed a number of songs and his most popular composition was the sentimental song “The Dying Soldier to His Mother.” He died in Philadelphia.
