R. F. MARTIN AKERMAN

Richard Frank Martin Akerman (1871-1938) was born in Reading, England, and was one of the first students of the Royal College of Music. He was assistant music master at Eton College and held a number of appointments around Windsor, Berkshire. He was the first editor of a series of anthems and church music published by “The Year Book Press” (1911). He is principally known as assistant and sub-organist at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle from 1900-1928 under Sir Walter Parratt. He composed a number of anthems and was known for his arrangement of Bach’s “Jesu, Joyance of my heart” for treble voices.

All are mixed chorus; some contain divisi.
