HAYDN MULHOLLAND

Patrick Joseph Haydn Mulholland (1864–1940) was born in Clare, Ireland, and was educated in both music and medicine. Trained as an ophthalmologist, he was an ophthalmic surgeon and head of the eye and ear, nose and throat department at Mater Infirmorum Hospital, Belfast. He also trained in music at the Royal University of Ireland. He was organist and choirmaster at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast, was an examiner with the Tonic Sol-fa Association and conductor of the Belfast branch of the Gaelic Society, and was an active organ recitalist, even giving performances for the British Medical Association, of which he was a member. His known compositions are service music and a part-song. He died in Belfast.
