RICHARD J. WILMOT

Richard James Wilmot (1839-1891) was born in Camden Town, Middlesex, London, and was blind as a child or from birth. He was musically trained—an organist and Fellow of the College of Organists. He was a teacher of singing and piano in London, and married operatic soprano Blanche Reives, often serving as her musical director. She was active touring internationally and made her American New York debut in 1873. They moved to the United States and settled in Quincy, Illinois, where he taught music and directed the Quincy Musical Club. They soon moved to California where he became organist and music director at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and she continued to tour the world, notably India and Australia. He died in San Francisco. He published some piano pieces, a few songs, and part songs.
